These “mini-guts” grow as three dimensional structures and contain all the different types of cells normally present in the gut wall. Accordingly, we anticipate that culturing these mini-guts will provide us with a more biologically relevant model to better understand the risk factors that underlie the high rates of bowel disease found in our community

To date we have used a gastrointestinal epithelial cell line to model the gut wall of the gut. Now we want to develop a new model that involves growing cells harvested from human or mouse biopsies.
